Mum transforms bathroom decor in a day for under £30 using free stuff and leftovers

But social media is full of people who have been touched by this decorating budget hurdle and are overcoming it by getting creative.

Searching your home for leftover paint at the bottom of pots, scrap wood, furniture that you can reuse or dismantle to use as base materials, leftover wallpaper and self-adhesive vinyl wrap. Even your garden can be involved in redecorating a room for less money.

Maybe a regular look at the social media marketplaces could find you a bargain or even some free stuff to use in your room makeover – someone’s pile of scrap wood could be a section of your new wood panel wall.

Speaking to Leader Doors about her use of recycling hacks and buying pre-loved furniture to revamp the entire bathroom without breaking the bank, Abi says: “This makeover was definitely up there because it made a huge difference in the room I just felt was very boring and not very enjoyable at first.”

Life is busy for Abi, but she put more pressure on herself than simply renovating the bathroom on a shoestring budget, setting herself a 24-hour deadline.

Abi says: “The renovation was almost free! the peel and stick floor tiles from Dunelm which were £14 a pack and I brought two so just under £30 I’m all about budget renovation!

“I made sure to keep things soft and neutral in my paint colors. I chose to use wood as accents to make my wall a feature, so in doing this I added scraps of wood around my mirror, which was very quick to do.

“I don’t want to waste anything, so for me it’s always like ‘what do I have on hand? “. Layering textures is something that has a fantastic impact on a space, so for me, I brought pampas grass from the garden to give character to the room. So the dried grass, warm neutrals, soft organic linen are the style, and accents of black with paint things like black piping.

In addition to remnants of paint on the walls and specialist paint on the radiator and new floor tiles, the unit has a new plastic cover and changed handles. Scraps of wood have been used to create a feature wooden strip panel behind the mirror and garden plant cuttings add complimentary greenery.

The artwork above the radiator in a frame already present in the house now houses a pressed garden plant cup, with a touch of paint behind.

The leftovers could be more easily used in Abi’s bathroom remodel, as she has a distinctive style throughout her home. This means that any scraps and scraps, paint and materials from other rooms, or brought in from outside with her style in mind, will all fit seamlessly into her home.

Abi says sticking to a theme works for her: “If you can find a theme for your home, and find a color scheme that you like and want to run with, just like building a brand, and if you think about the color palette for your whole house, then your house will sink.

“That’s how I was able to use up leftover paint, because rather than going out and buying a new box, you can just reuse paint, wood, and decor from all over the house to put it all together so that it flows really well.”
