Color Your Haier Refrigerator To Match Your Kitchen Decor

Chris Monroe / CNET

Haier invites you to step outside the limits of stainless steel. At IFA fair here in Berlin, the home appliance maker unveiled a new line of refrigerators with customizable color options. When you order 60 series or 70 series refrigerator from Haier, you can use the website to choose the colors you want.

Since so many major household appliances look alike, except for minor differences in the curve of the handle or logo, a pop of color should help the Chinese company’s refrigerators stand out as unique pieces.

Other big manufacturers have taken small steps to differentiate themselves – LG offers a black stainless steel finish, GE (which was recently acquired by Haier) has slate. Really, only Smeg offers any kind of real variety. And since Haier promises a “virtually unlimited” color palette, it should have even more options than the retro styles of the design-centric Smeg.

In addition to customizable colors, Haier is showcasing a few other refrigerator innovations at the Berlin show: cooler technologies and easy-to-access freezer drawers. None of these ads stand out as much as the colors – almost every refrigerator we’ve reviewed boasts of its revolutionary technology that will keep your food fresher, longer.

Haier has yet to announce pricing or availability of its color-focused refrigerators. I expect them to launch in Europe first, but given Haier’s acquisition of GE, there’s reason to hope we’ll see full-color refrigerators in the US soon.
